Community Plan

Williamson Valley Community Plan

With growth in the Williamson Valley area, residents felt it necessary to create a citizen-driven Community Plan to guide County leaders in future development within the community. Results of a 2005 public survey, and earlier surveys, clearly indicated that residents want to preserve their rural residential lifestyle.

The Williamson Valley Community Plan forms a guide for County officials and the Williamson Valley community that balances private property rights with residents needs, concerns, and preferred manner of future development. Each section of the plan contains a set of goals based upon survey results, resident input from public meetings and committee research. The implementation strategies are suggestions to achieve these community goals. The policies and strategies within this plan have no regulatory powers or any effect on existing land use.

The Williamson Valley Community Plan was submitted for adoption as a Community Plan amendment to the Yavapai County Plan in July 2009. At  its February 3, 2010 hearing, the Yavapai County Planning and Zoning Commission recommended that the Board of Supervisors deny the application. At its March 1, 2010 hearing, the Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to reject the application.

Despite these denials, the plan continues to document the desires of a majority of the community residents to maintain the scenic, rural and residential character of the area.
